Question:
Would not wearing my glasses make my vision improve?
?

I've been doing a lot of reading on this topic lately and I've heard such mixed answers. Some people swear that it won't while other say it does.

I'm 13 and and in 8th grade. My vision is pretty bad and it's been deteriorating since the time I got glasses which was in the 1st or 2nd grade although I only wore them in 3rd. I wear them all the time besides the times where I'm sleeping or showering.

My vision is almost 600 on the right eye and around 350 on my left. I also have astigmatism but ti's not very bad.

Can astigmatism cause bad eyesight?

Are there any ways of improving my vision naturally? I'm really scared that I'll be blind because every time I visit the eye doc my vision is like 100 degrees worse. I hate how I look with my glasses and my parents refuse to get me contacts until I'm 16. I feel really ugly with glasses and I hate them so much. I just want to have prefect vision again!

Also, strange question, but I have side bangs and they sort of cover my left eye. Can this be a reason as to why it's not as bad?

You have read a lot , but have you read any independent scientific studies which say wearing glasses make your eyesight worse? There are many fake things out there designed to make you spend money on fake cures. Bad eyesight at your age is about eyeball shape - how is that affected by wearing glasses. As you grow the shape of your eyeball changes so its quite likely that your eyesight does get worse from the time you first start wearing glasses , its not the glasses which are at fault its you growing. Your eyesight got bad before you started wearing glasses didn't it? If glasses made your eyes worse then the 50 odd years of wearing glasses would have meant my eyesight was virtually uncorrectable, as with most people my eyesight stablized in my early 20's.

Astigmatism is one of the reasons you have bad eyesight - again its about eyeball shape. There is no way that hair covering your eye could make a difference. Think about it logically - how could it affect teh shape of your eyeball.

If there was any way of improving your eyesight naturally then noone would wear glasses/contacts. You will NOT be blind , your eyesight will be correctable by glasses. I think you are misreading your perscription anyway, its not measured in degrees, its normally things like -0.25 to -xx.xx or a plus sign. The degrees tend to be about the axis of your astigmatism.

Its a shame your parents won't let you have contacts until you are 16. I had mine at 13 and they make a big difference. I would work on this issue. What reasons have your parents given? Do you think the money might be the problem? Ask to sit down with them and just ask what reasons they have for saying 16 is important. Dont' argue with them, just ask if you can have reasons as it is uncomon these days. When you have some reasons come back here and we'll see if we can help with persuading them that contacts are teh way to go.

Eyeglasses are only a tool to correct your vision. Wearing or not wearing eyeglasses will not make your uncorrected vision better or worse. Here is one way to look at it, eyeglasses did not cause you to need eyeglasses in the first place, why would a person's vision improve by not wearing them?

Astigmatism can cause blurred vision. I have moderate astigmatism in my left eye and everything is somewhat blurry without glasses/contacts. I suggest you found a frame style that looks good on you and until you are 16 and can get contacts. Eyeglasses really are not bad.

So with out your glasses your acuity ( how well you can see) will be effected. But with your glasses on and if it is the right correction you will have perfect vision. No glasses poor vision, glasses on good vision. It is as instant as that. Just keep wearing the glasses but as you get older (say over 40) you will need to get the pressure in your eyes checked, although this is not a function of wearing glasses this is a function of age.

Most people believe that once they are diagnosed with some vision problem and start wearing eye glasses or contact lenses to correct them, they will have to do so for life in order to see better. Those who want a permanent solution to improve eyesight typically resort to Lasik or other corrective eye surgeries. But you you can also improve your vision without surgery and can see perfectly well without using eyeglasses or contact lenses. You can check here to know how https://tr.im/33c02

Hey,

I can guarantee that improving eyesight without surgery (which I don't trust) is possible. I'm following this method http://www.goobypls.com/r/rd.asp?gid=413 and I'm seeing very good results.

I guess it's the sotware you need.

Its pretty simple. Your eye sight will get worse at a faster rate if you choose to not wear your glasses. The exceptions are if you spend a lot of time reading or using the computer, you may want to not wear your glasses while doing so. Also, if your prescription is off it can also be detrimental. During an eye exam make sure to be as upfront as possible. If you don't know if "2 is better than 1" tell them. On the subject of contacts, make sure you don't bring it up to often (it isn't the end of the world if you have to wait till you're 16 even if it might suck and not make any sense to you), but good talking points are that the earlier you get them the easier it will be to fit them into your morning routine (I got mine at 15 and wish I had gotten them a few years earlier), and you will HAVE TO increase your water intake which will all around improve your health. I have always had my bangs long, and for some years they would not be symmetrically covering my eyes. I do believe this had some kind of affect on my vision, but if it does, it is probably for the worse, not the better.

EDIT: Also, don't worry about how you look with them. You can use sites like coastal.com to find cheap designer glasses, and they even have a webcam tool to try them on. Cheapest, best quality contacts and glasses. Your parents can get reimbursed from insurance too.

I'm not an expert, but I don't think your vision can improve by not wearing glasses. It may improve for some other reason, though. I believe that, over time, glasses worsen your vision. One thing I am sure of, though, is that carrots help your vision. I mean, they don't cure blindness or anything, but they are good for your eyes.
