Question:
I am 28 years old and have never had an eye problem. I've failed my fields test 3 times. What does that mean?

I recently noticed 'floaters' very often and think I am having a slight problem with light sensitivity/cloudiness. The optician says I don't need glasses but I have to repeat the fields test again for the fourth time. what could this mean?

The concern here is that you've been to this 'Optician' 3 times (and returning for a 4th time) and there has not been enough communication made for you to understand the 'status' of your eyes and vision. Or maybe you have mis-understood what your Optician has told you, or you are not comfortable with him/her to ask all the questions about your eyes/vision.

At your next visit, demand from him/her the full explanation of what are the issues. And by the end, if all your questions have not been aswered to your satisfaction, then seek another opinion.

Primary eye-care professionals... are meant to be professionals. But just as any other industry, there are 'idiots' out there... who, for what ever reason still practice their 'profession'. You're paying them a fee, and you deserve competency and quality in service.

some of my favorite things are when people:

1) assume that the eye care professional (in this case the UK optician) is a moron & must be missing something silly/stupid (like "nearsightedness"...pretty sure the optician is not mis-diagnosing myopia)

and

2) recommend an eye care professional that they cannot spell & don't want to bother googling (in this case "opthamologist" (sic))

to answer the original question: it could mean nothing, it could mean something. hard to know based on the information here. all we know is...you aren't performing like the optician thinks you should be able to. is this b/c

a) you just don't take that subjective test well

or

b) you have real peripheral vision loss

thats the question. who knows? we don't. 4x is a little redundant. maybe you & the optician should try some other test this time? a different type of field test or possibly a retinal scan of some sort (like a GDx or HRT). that may require a referral to someone who has that equipment, however

everyone has floaters. its dead blood cells. or whatever.

its like everyone has dust in their house cuz its mostly dead skin cells.

maybe uve had an eye problem but no one has told you uve had one.

ex. ive had hard times reading books and other stuff like through school and i have a learning disablity. anywho. ive had this since like long time ago grade 3 or sumthing. and just in summer 2009 i was diagonsed with irlen syndrome so ia hve to have coloured lenses (not sunglasses they are acutally called filters) so they help me while reading, and seeing things. like i had glasses since grade 5. and during highschool they kept on putting it higher and higer the perscription like i was like -9 or sumthing and i didnt need it so strong. i just needed filters to help wtih the light.

visit another optician as yours may just be ignorant. Its probably near-sightedness a simple and very common disease found in many people.

Try an opthamologist this time.
