What's the deal with myopic power rings on my glasses?

I have had glasses since I was a child. I'm 19 now and my glasses have gotten pretty strong (-10). For some time, I have been aware of these rings and the fact that each new pair of glasses has more of them. I'm not sure I like them. Someone said they look more attractive if they are polished. Can someone explain this phenomenon to me? Apparently there is no way of doing away with them.

Ron's advice to go with Hi-Index Polycarbonate is the worst advice possible. Polycarb is a crappy material in any powers over - 3.00 , the optics are very poor and they are not the thinnest lenses either.

You need real Hi-Index 1.67 with polished edges and a premium anti reflection coating , and in the smallest frame that fits you.

Those rings are actually reflections of the edge of the lens itself that repeat over and over. You don't want the edges overly polished either , just enough to make them clear . Most of the modern edging machines will do the polishing job just right.

Look at your prescription.

You are either wearing myodiscs or edges need to be polished.

Your question needs to be more clear?

With a -10.00 I would suggest Hi index polycarbonate and small frame.
