So I was just sitting in my bed pondering and I started to think about eye colors..... I have a few questions that I'm stumped on so if you could help me that would be awesome :P

So the first question is.... I have green eyes and my husband has hazel what eye colors would our children have?

What are the chances of us having a child with blue eyes, really dark brown eyes or amber eyes?

Would there be a chance they would inherit one of their grandparents, aunts or uncles eyes?

Would it have anything to do with our heritage? (I'm of Swedish, Norwegian, German, and English decent and my husband is of Jewish Russian <--- thats what he told me...)

Or would they just end up getting a mix or one of our eye colors?

If you could answer all of these I would be really thankful :)
Odie :D

A green eyed parent and hazel eyed parent will have children with blue, green, hazel, light brown or medium brown eyes. Blue and medium brown are less likely; green, hazel or light brown are more likely.

Eye colour is determined by a number of genes which control whether pigment will be present or absent in each of three layers, the density of the pigment in each layer and whether flecks, rings or patches of denser pigment will be present in each layer. The particular mix of genes determines the colour, there is no single gene for each colour.

Your children will inherit their mix of genes from you and your husband and each of you inherited a mix of genes from your respective parents. Grandparents, aunts, uncles will each have their mix of genes, the same pool of genes are available to your children and some of your children may have a mix that is similar to one of their relatives' mix.

1. it depends. it will probably take mostly your husbands eyes because mens traits are usually stronger.

2. not that big of a chance but definantly possible. sometimes when parents have kids the parents have blue traits in them even with green eyes because of there parents. so depending on your relatives eye colors are the kids possibilities.

3. related to the question above, yes

4. yes in a way it does because if there german or anything else germany may have mostly green eyes. just like if you were american and your husband was hispanic or something then your kid could be either or a mix.

5. they may mix a little but probably just one of your eye colors.

yes to pretty much all of that but what you should do is research dominant and recessive genes. two green eyed parents usually produce kids with blue or green eyes but thats not set in stone. it all depends on what dominant or recessive genes are being carried around.

They could get any colour eyes that any of their parents or granparents eyes were but are most likely to get hazel.
