Me too. The first eye gave me trouble at first. I was very sensitive to light, saw light beams (like X, a double beam) and the eye drops hurt. If eye drops hurt, warm them up a bit & maybe that will help. After about 5 days, it was more normal, but still had the light beams.

The second eye was a piece of cake! Up and around by suppertime and never looked back.

Each one is different.

Good luck and good eyesight to you!

They didn't tell you a few things:

There is sensitivity to light that lasts about a month.

You may have Halos, Star bursts, and Glare for the first month.

Loss of visual clarity for about 3 months.

Dryness of the eyes, which can cause redness, itchiness, blurred vision, crusting, or the sensation that there is something in your eye for up to 6 months.

And loss of contrast sensitivity, which means you can lose the ability to see things clearly and you wont be able to drive. This also lasts up to 6 months.

You already know the worst case scenario, you could have permanent damage. But if the doctor who did the surgery has a lot of experience, they these side effects should only be temporary. One more thing...... Do NOT rub your eyes!

LASIK has been shown to be a relatively safe procedure...for those who are deemed a good candidate. The only way to tell if you are a good candidate is to have a consultation where they will measure your corneal thickness, vision, pupil size, and the general health of your eye. As your optometrist for recommendations of reputable LASIK surgeons in your area as a good way to start researching them. Do not go by price alone...it seems that more of the 'train wrecks' that have been seen are due to inexperience, or plain recklessness, of the surgeon, or lack of maintenance to their equipment. I work for a group of ophthalmologists...and yes, there have been cases of LASIK surgeries that probably should have never been performed come through our office for many different reasons. As for how often....many patients are coming to us have other ocular problems as well as their failed LASIK procedures. No, the problems are not related to their LASIK...more coincidental. You can google and watch LASIK videos online...How It's Made had a segment of it on TV in the past couple of weeks...and yes...it is not fun to watch...I watched my husband's procedure just to know more about it. I'm attaching a link below for you to parouse that describes the procedure, the risks, benefits, possible complications, conditions that should make LASIK not be a consideration, and what makes a good candidate. Keep in mind...everyone is different...there are going to be horror stories....and there are going to be stories from those who LOVE their results. Personally, I have known quite a few friends who had LASIK or PRK and have had no ill results. Go into a consultation informed and armed with a list of questions for the surgeon. Do not be afraid of going elsewhere if you do not feel comfortable with the surgeon and NEVER go by price. Is the 'discount' of mediocraty worth your eyesight?

Well the worst is blindness. But I've heard stories of people having permanent double vision and other weird stuff like that. From what I've heard these side effects are pretty rare. I've thought long and hard about getting lasik but knowing my luck I'll be the one guy out of 10,000 that goes blind, so I'm going to stick with my contacts.

I got mine and I could see clearer right after the surgery but it was a little blurry from adjusting. The worse that can happen is you rub your eyes too soon like while you're sleeping so please wear the goggles thet give you. I know they are hideous, but at least you'll be sleep. They told me the more you sleep, the faster your eyes heal. They gave me Tylenol with codine so I was good. I absolutely love my new eyes. I love it.

You should have a follow up visit today. Standard care after LASIK is one day, one week and one month. Your doctor can tell you what is happening with your eye.
