I am quite nearsighted (about 5.0 degrees in both eyes) and have been wearing 2-week contacts for many years. They have worked well. Recently, I guess I have been wearing them for longer than I should, but I have been doing that regularly anyways (anywhere from 3 weeks to two months long per pair of contacts). I also sleep with my eyes open (freaky, I know), and my optometrist told me that there's actually a therapeutic advantage to me wearing contacts while I sleep, since they prevent my eyes from drying--so I don't think that my wearing contacts for longer than I should is causing the sudden blurring. My vision just today and yesterday suddenly got much much worse, with and without contacts OR glasses. All the sudden, even the words I am typing right now on my computer screen are blurred as I am looking at the screen. I cannot read a book, or even view a website with big font very clearly. Font gets exponentially harder to read the smaller they are, and even when they're fairly large they are not 100% clear. I am looking at a table lamp that is two feet away from me and even that is somewhat blurry. It's not so much foggy or cloudy as it is that I cannot seem to focus on the fine lines of the letters on the screen or the crisp outline of shapes, no matter their size.

It is like this when I put on contacts or glasses or have no contacts/glasses on.

I have also had a cough and lost my voice the past two weeks. I don't think that has anything to do with it though (??).

I have slight astigmatism and my family has a history of nearsightedness, but this has never happened before. There are no other symptoms.

What is up?

PS: I wear Acuvue Advanced Hydraclear (the non-astigmatism type).

If you could list your credentials when you're answering this question too, like what makes you informed about this topic, that would be nice scould judge your rough level of expertise. I should probably go to the doctor, but I have so many midterms coming up I don't have time! D:o I could judge your rough level of expertise. Make time to go to teh doctor. This is one of the symptoms of oxygen deprivation to your eyes and time is critical. And keep your lenses out of your eyes you have been overwearing and not wearing for the recommended time that means you have been increasing your risk factor. Contacts do NOT at any stage help keep your eyes from drying so I'd go to another optician as that one doesn't give good advice. HAd that happen to me as well.

I'm not an optician but I have worn contacts for over 40 years and I have had oxygen deprivation with much the same symptoms you describe. I very nearly ended up with damaged vision - another week and that might have been it.

I am just a homemaker. I have had the same symptoms as you and I went to the ompthamoligist and it turned out I had what is called iritis. This is easily cleared up with eye drops that you take for 6 weeks. Its the only way to get rid of this or it will worsen .

You may not have what I had but it is best you go see a doctor right away because you could be damaging your eyes the longer you leave it go.

Good luck Take care

This happens to me too when I'm on the computer or watching tv for too long. Also, you may be tired. Ususally, it gets better in a day or two. If it doesn't, check with the eye doctor.
